The Traffic Safety Committee reviews and makes recommendations on matters related to vehicular and pedestrian safety within the City of National City. As directed by the City Council, the Traffic Safety Committee conducts investigations and reports on safety issues requested by appropriate public agencies and responsible private citizens / private organizations. 

Examples of traffic safety items include:

Parking Issues

Establishment/removal of time-restricted parking zones
Establishment/removal of red curb “no parking”
Establishment/removal of loading zones
Establishment/removal of angle parking
Establishment/removal of handicapped parking
Establishment of/changes to residential permit parking districts
Speeding Issues and Speed Enforcement

Sight Distance Issues

School Safety Issues

Traffic Control Requests

Installation/removal of traffic control devices such as warning signs, beacons, stop signs, yield signs and traffic signals
Installation/removal of pavement striping and crosswalks

Board Information

Yes, Residency Requirement.

As a member of a Board/Commission/Committee for the City of National City members are required to complete an online filing of economic interest. This filing is required by the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) and is required annually. The filing reports activities for the prior 12 months, and this includes prior to appointment. The City Clerk's Office will set up the account and be the point of contact.
Mayoral Appointment subject to confirmation by the City Council.

Public meetings of the Traffic Safety Committee are held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 1:00 p.m. in the Large Conference Room located in City Hall at 1243 National City Blvd., unless otherwise designated.
Each Boards/Commission/Committee member is required to complete an online training for AB 1234 Ethics Training every two (2) years. This is accomplished through a training portal provided by the Human Resources and City Clerk's Office staff.
